Carestream Health’s New DRX-1 System Gains Health Canada Approval

Carestream Health has obtained a medical device license from Health Canada for CARESTREAM DRX-1 System and will immediately begin taking orders in Canada. The DRX-1 system is a wireless, cassette-sized DR detector. It is designed to fit existing x-ray rooms without modification. “Our new DR system is designed to solve workflow and productivity challenges that healthcare providers face every day and it can help them to improve patient care while reducing expenses,” said Diana L. Nole, President, Digital Medical Solutions, Carestream Health. “The DRX-1 can help medical professionals achieve the benefits of an all-digital workflow at a lower cost. It is an extremely attractive option for facilities that want to improve productivity and image quality in existing film or CR rooms, but may not have the budget for equipment replacement during these challenging economic times.” Healthcare professionals who have seen the new DR detector compliment its affordability and productivity. As this new detector can be employed in all applications where a 14 x 17 inch (35 x 43 cm) x-ray cassette would be used and it can be easily incorporated into any type of radiology environment and would not require modification of existing rooms. The DRX-1 system’s affordability and speed will make it an excellent choice for operating suites, emergency departments and portable exams. The DRX-1 system will deliver high-quality preview images in five seconds. Its light weight and compact size further enhance throughput and convenience. The new system will be available in many regions of the world in 2009. Carestream Health demonstrated the DRX-1 System as a work in progress at the 2008 meeting of the RSNA in December.
