Cardica completes internal design verification process for surgical cutting device

Cardica, which designs and manufactures proprietary stapling and anastomotic devices for cardiac and endoscopic surgical procedures, has completed the internal design verification process of its Microcutter XPRESS 30 surgical cutting and stapling device to apply for CE mark approval.

Cardica’s Microcutter surgical cutting and stapling product line is designed to provide endoscopic stapling in colorectal, thoracic and general surgery.

Microcutter XPRESS 30 has a shaft that is 8 mm in diameter which allows access through smaller, less-invasive ports and, through trocars used for the other surgical tools required for laparoscopic procedures.

Cardica’s automated anastomosis systems include the C-Port Distal Anastomosis systems and PAS-Port Proximal Anastomosis system which are used for coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.

Cardica president and CEO Bernard Hausen said with this milestone complete, they have scheduled several laparoscopic cases in Europe using the XPRESS 30.
