Brainlab installs ExacTrac X-Ray system at Hartford Hospital in US

Medical technology provider Brainlab has installed 625th ExacTrac X-Ray system at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut, US.

The system has been developed to solve the complexities associated with intra-fractional patient motion by internally verifying the patient’s position with stereoscopic X-Ray at the time of treatment.

ExacTrac X-Ray will be mostly useful for cranial stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and spinal stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) treatments.

The system is said to allow the continuous verification of the patient’s position at any point during treatment, based on internal anatomy and regardless of technique or couch position.

Brainlab president and CEO Stefan Vilsmeier said the clinical adoption highlights the critical need for patient motion mangement during SRS and SBRT treatment delivery.

"Brainlab is continuously listening to our network of clincians and providing innovative solutions that faciliate the ability to safely and accurately treat SRS and SBRT patients," Vilsmeier added.

The company said that the system provides flexibility to install on any linear accelerator system complementing the LINAC with the ability to detect intra-fractional motion based on the patient’s internal anatomy.

Based in Munich, Germany, Brainla develops, manufactures and markets software-driven medical technology, and has installed around 5,000 systems in about 95 countries.
