Boston Scientific plans to invest $150m in China to establish a manufacturing facility and a training center for Chinese healthcare providers.
The training center will provide instruction on the latest medical device procedures, utilizing therapy-oriented education and virtual learning, device simulation environment.
Boston Scientific also plans to further invest in R&D and clinical studies to increase its employee base in China from 200 to over 1,200.
Boston Scientific president and CEO Ray Elliott said by establishing a manufacturing base and supporting infrastructure, the company can meet China’s healthcare needs with products and treatment options.
Boston Scientific senior vice president and president Larry Neumann said the growing affluence of the local population and the Chinese government’s commitment to invest $125bn on its healthcare system in the next five years offers opportunities to the company.
