Boston announces first European patient implant of Promus Element Plus System

Boston Scientific has implanted the first European patient with its Promus Element Plus Everolimus-Eluting Platinum Chromium Coronary Stent System.

The new stent system includes a platinum chromium (PtCr) alloy, with the same design as that of the Promus Element Stent, with an enhanced catheter delivery system designed for improved deliverability in treating patients suffering with coronary artery diseases.

The Promus Element Plus Stent System also employs an advanced low-profile delivery system featuring a dual-layer balloon designed to enable precise stent delivery across challenging lesions and reduce balloon growth during inflation to facilitate high-pressure stent deployment.

San Raffaele Hospital and Laboratory Columbus Hospital Cardiac Catheterization director Antonio Colombo said we believe the improved deliverability of the Promus Element Plus Stent System will add another benefit, especially when accessing challenging lesions.

"This stent is also supported by strong clinical outcomes from the PLATINUM trials, which demonstrated very low rates of revascularization and stent thrombosis at one year," Colombo said.

Boston said it has received CE mark approval for its Promus Element Stent System in 2009 and for the Promus Element Plus Stent System in 2011.
