Belmont unveils new Rapid Infuser RI-2

US-based Belmont Instrument has introduced a new version of The Belmont Rapid Infuser, the RI-2, which will be used to treat rapid blood loss in hospitals.

Rapid

The new Belmont Rapid Infuser has been developed for use in the operating room during liver transplant surgeries, trauma and other incidents of massive blood loss.

Belmont Instrument president George Herzlinger said the Belmont Rapid Infuser was originallt introduced in 1999 and almost all machines purchased are still in use.

"Our induction heating technology continues to outperform all competitive technologies," Herzlinger added.

The new device can also be used in the labor and delivery department, when the mother is suffering from obstetric hemorrhage, which is a serious complication that can occur during or after childbirth.

Belmont Rapid Infuser is said to use patented induction heating technology, which allows the blood or fluid to heat instantly, and helps in preventing hypothermia.

The device includes two air detectors, and if air is noticed, the system shuts down rapidly to protect the patient and instructs the clinician how to return the system to operation.

Established in 1980, Belmont manufactures and markets critical care medical devices.
