B. Braun Melsungen AG (B. Braun Melsungen), a medical devices company, has laid a foundation stone for the new medical production facility in Hanoi, Vietnam. The production facility will be built over the next twelve months, receiving $22 million in investment from B. Braun Melsungen. An additional $25 million will be invested in facilities and machinery by 2012. The resulting structure will be a two-storey building boasting 15,200 square meters of total space.

By making such a large investment, B. Braun Melsungen has underlined its trust in Vietnam as a production site, stated the Minister President during the ceremony in the marquee in the Thanh Oai industrial area in Ha Tay. Koch, who also acted as an ambassador of the Hesse business community, praised this medical technology group as an exemplary company.

This new building complex will house a new state-of-the-art production facility, heralding a new generation in our Vietnam production, said B. Braun Melsungen management board member Dr. Meinrad Lugan.

B. Braun currently employs 300 people in the medical sector and 200 in the pharmaceuticals sector in Hanoi. According to Dr. Lugan, some 500 people are to be working in this new medical production facility in Ha Tay by 2010, a number which is to increase to 660 by 2012. He added that starting in 2010, the new plant will have an annual production capacity of 100 million IV administration sets; this is projected to increase to 200 million sets 2012.
