Ascom to acquire Italian medical software firm UMS

Ascom has agreed to acquire Italy-based medical software firm United Medical Software (UMS), for an undisclosed sum.

Based in Florence, UMS offers integrations for medical devices, and provides digital medical records software solutions for life-critical patient care.

UMS produces CE-marked medical device software, and supplies it to the large companies in the medical device business.

The company provides modular, point-of-care and digital medical records software solutions for university hospitals, private specialty clinics, and healthcare government entities.

According to Ascom, UMS offers around 200 medical device integrations and 1,000 different EMR forms and integrations.

Ascom Wireless Solutions general manager Claes Ödman said: "Ascom is very pleased to have acquired a business with such a good strategic fit. This is an important technology acquisition for Ascom’s healthcare ICT strategy.

"With the acquired software solutions, we have the opportunity to give our customers even more possibilities to improve their clinical workflows."

The deal will allow Ascom to gain access to new software and additional competence for global integrated workflow solutions in Healthcare ICT.

The company will also secure access to new solutions for intensive care and surgical workflow management in high acuity units.

The deal is expected to be completed in mid-January 2016.
