Manny Pacquiao net worth: Championing the ‘no pain, no gain’ approach

Thanks to Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao is a very rich man. He is one of the best and most successful fighters of his generation, but what is the Manny Pacquiao net worth?

Weighing in at 65 kilograms, with a height of just 1.66 metres, Manny Pacquiao is certainly on the small side for a professional boxer. Yet, the welterweight champion has defied his stature and cemented his status as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers of all time.

His speedy hands pack a powerful punch that has put some of the world’s best fighters on the mat, including Erik Morales, Ricky Hatton and Oscar De La Hoya. Very few have been able to stand up to the Filipino’s incredible combinations.

Unsurprisingly, risking your life in the ring comes with its perks, particularly at the highest level. Pacquiao has provided boxing fans with plenty of entertainment over the years. For his effort, he has been rewarded with a vast fortune.

3 fights that boosted the Manny Pacquiao net worth

Having earned $500 million throughout his career through fight purses, the Manny Pacquiao net worth is unsurprisingly high.

Of that sum, the fast fighter is believed to have pocketed a total of $190 million. He earned much of that in these three super-fights:

Manny Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel Marquez – 2012

Having faced each other three times previously, a fierce rivalry between Pacquiao and Marquez was well underway by the time they met for a fourth fight in 2012.

Their first bout ended in a draw in 2004, following 12 rounds of explosive back-and-forth action. They met again in 2008, when a more refined Pacquiao took the fight on the cards. He followed that up with another win over Marquez in 2011, in a battle that went 12 rounds once again.

Unsurprisingly, their fourth fight generated an incredible amount of hype. It earned Pacquiao a cool $30 million from the purse split and PPV sales. However, Marquez brought Manny’s winning streak to an end by securing a knockout victory.

Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley Jr. – 2016

Pacquiao’s initial clash with Timothy Bradley Jr. was billed as a warm-up ahead of Pacquiao’s much anticipated clash with Floyd Mayweather Jr. However, the hard-hitting boxers struck up an intriguing rivalry, which would entice fight fans to hand over their money.

After losing the first fight on the judges’ cards, which brought an end to a run of 15 consecutive wins for Pacquiao, he was quick to call a rematch two years later. He got his revenge by securing a unanimous decision victory. Although, their third fight would be the biggest of the lot.

Coming soon after Pacquiao’s fight with Mayweather, plenty of sports fans were eager to tune in to his next bout, earning him a $36 million pay-out.

Billed as the ‘Fight of the Century’, boxing fans had been waiting for a clash between Pacquiao and undefeated champion Floyd Mayweather for six years. The two parties had been in discussions since 2009, but struggled to agree to a deal.

When it did finally happen, the hype was like nothing that boxing had ever seen before. It generated more than $500 million in pay-per-view sales, tickets, sponsorship and merchandise. It was almost triple the previous record of $150 million.

The fight ultimately failed to live up to its explosive expectations, with Mayweather taking the result on the judges’ cards. However, it will be hard to beat the numbers that it produced. Likewise, Pacquiao is unlikely to see another payday like it in his career, having earned $120 million for going the 12 rounds.
