Symetra appoints head of group life actuarial

Symetra Life Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Symetra Financial has appointed Jasyn Sadler to lead the actuarial function for its expanding group life and disability income insurance business.

As assistant vice president of group life and disability actuarial, Sadler will be responsible for pricing, valuation and modeling of Symetra’s group life and disability income products.

Based in Connecticut, he will report to David Fry, vice president and lead actuary for the company’s group division.

Most recently, Sadler has served as president and founder of Chapin Solutions, an independent consulting practice specializing in group disability.

Previously, he was vice president and actuary of Benefit Solutions at American International Group, heading up life and disability pricing, product management and reserve valuation.

Symetra said it plans to expand its group life and disability income insurance operation in January 2011 by building in-house capabilities and focusing on mid-sized businesses.

Since the beginning of this year, Symetra has hired Tom Foran to lead the group life management team and direct product development efforts; Don Canfield to head up underwriting; Lora Lyons to run claims and operations; and Christopher Koettker, Andrew McMillan and Steve Mezei to drive field sales.

Symetra provides employee benefits, annuities and life insurance through a national network of benefit consultants, financial institutions, and independent agents and advisors.
