To deal with key policies and operational issues affecting the smooth operations of NHIS

Government of Ghana, along with the World Bank, has set up a National health insurance project, to deal with key policies and operational issues affecting the smooth operations of the National health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), reported Ghana Broadcasting.

The project under a governing body, the Inter Agency Steering Committee, will guarantee the strengthening of the financial and operational management of the scheme.

Dr. Benjamin Kunbour, Deputy Minister of Health, and Chairman of NHIP, said: “There are three major components of the scheme to be addressed under the NHIP which are Policy Development, information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Management Training.

Sylvester Mensah, CEO of NHIS, said: “There is a need to restructure operations of the Scheme to ensure accountability and transparency.”
