Cooper Gay appoints head of broking for Singapore office

Cooper Gay, a reinsurance and specialist retail insurance broker, has appointed Jeremy Austen as head of broking for its Singapore office.

Austen will focus on business development throughout the region and he will report to the Asia Pacific regional managing director Stephen Britten.

Austen will join from Talbot Asia, where he was principal underwriting officer of the Lloyd’s syndicate. During his 30 year career he has also worked for brokers Cogent and Arthur J Gallagher.

Britten said the Asia Pacific market is a primary focus for Cooper Gay and the company have plans to grow the local presence considerably in order to support the expanding client portfolio.

"By hiring Jeremy we have not only added to the combined insurance and reinsurance experience of our team, but having spent 14 years living in Singapore he also brings a true understanding of the region’s specific trading requirements," Britten said.

First established in Singapore as a general reinsurance broker in 1996, Cooper Gay’s Asia Pacific regional presence now includes subsidiaries in Hong Kong and Sydney, Australia and a representative office in Shanghai, China.

Its 30-strong team handles all classes of facultative and treaty reinsurance, covering property, energy , general liability, financial lines and marine.
