ContinueLearn MoreLightning Eliminators & Consultants, Inc. (LEC) serves its clients by installing and maintaining lightning protection systems (LPS), and prevention solutions. Equipped with over four decades of experience, LEC has provided successful support to over 90 countries and throughout the United States.
LEC is passionate about providing integrated products, services, and solutions in line with lightning protection and prevention. As an industry leader that’s well informed about the damaging and costly influences of lightning strikes and storms, it prides itself of on supplying effective consulting, assessment, and design for reducing vulnerability.
Innovation is a core focus that has ensured LEC’s success for the last 44 years. Its patented and cutting-edge charge transfer system (CTS) is executed in conjunction with grounding system applications, testing, and surge protection design.
In fact, LEC’s own Dissipation Array® System (DAS®) is a type of CTS. It unerringly reduces electrical fields to below lightning collection levels, thus preventing direct lightning strikes within the protected area. The many benefits of the DAS® include, but are not limited to, safeguarding personnel safety, along with avoiding downtime and loss of assets.
Furthermore, with 15-20 reported floating roof tank (FRT) fires per year, the damage caused by direct or indirect lighting can be devastating. As such, LEC additionally utilises its Retractable Grounding Assembly (RGA®) to assist in fire prevention on FRTs.
As excellent applications of physics and engineering, products such as DAS® and RGA® have assisted LEC in defending most Global 1000 companies from the potentially calamitous effects of lightning strikes. The scope of LEC’s sustainable and efficient support spans clientele in the industries below, and many more:

Not only does LEC supply its clients with lightning protection products and services, but it additionally provides complimentary lightning measurement devices that ensure its clients know about any incoming storms and lightning.
Operating on both an international and domestic level, LEC shares its extensive years of expert knowledge in its innovative systems, consulting services, and research. As such, it stands as an industry leader for all facets associated with the influences of lightning strikes. Its clients choose it as a point of reference for prevention, control, reduction of risk, and effective management.
The LEC team is also a rich font of information on lightning strike control and prevention. Their proficiency is well-known throughout the industry, and has contributed to LEC being a major vendor in numerous markets.
Lastly, LEC’s product presentations, positive feedback, technical articles and research papers represent an unrivalled resource about lightning prevention, and its own successes.
A Chief Engineer for NASA, Roy B. Carpenter Jr. founded LEC in 1971.
Having worked on the Apollo Moon Landing Missions and the Space Shuttle design engineering teams, Carpenter was familiar with the significant and frequent issues surrounding lightning strikes on Cape Canaveral.
This insight motivated him to create the forerunner to LEC, Lightning Eliminators & Associates.
A vessel for studying problems associated with lightning strike hazards, it led Carpenter to design a prevention system with far-reaching assets. He funnelled his engineering and physics background into a scientific approach to utilizing point-discharge, as opposed to the anecdotal method that for over 200 years had dominated the lightning protection community.
From its founder’s initiatives, LEC was able to construct its current CTS that implements the point-discharge phenomenon. Specifically, the DAS® has enabled LEC to offer a full no-strike warranty that it recertifies annually to each of its returning clients.
At a staggering 99.87% success ratio, the charge transfer point-discharge system is indisputably effective. Furthermore, it has over 60,000 system years of data installed in up to 3,500 systems.
LEC is still operational under the guardianship of the Carpenter family of Boulder, Colorado.
