KATI is an award winning Finnish company and our key services include diamond core drilling, modern and precise borehole measurements, field prospecting as well as processing and storing of core samples. We are one of the largest core drilling contractors in Scandinavia. Our goal is to provide our clients in Mining and Exploration industry with high-quality data on the geology of an area in an efficient and reliable manner.

We produce high quality information from underground in an efficient and trustworthy manner. The principal product is drill core, and we aim to achieve prompt delivery of this product to the customer every time. The main goal is to provide reliable and first-rate service to the industry, making us leaders in drilling efficiency and delivery reliability.
Our customers consist of various major and junior exploration and mining companies, including the dimensional stone industry, environmental research institutes, power companies, the Geological Survey of Finland, municipalities and other public-sector organizations. KATI headquarters are located on the west coast of Finland, about 150km south of Oulu.
Our measurement services complement the information received from the borehole. By using up-to-date deviation surveys, the location of the drill hole in 3 dimensions can be located extremely accurately. This is essential information for the company who is planning mining activities, as it determines exactly the point where the piece of core in the core box has been drilled. We carry out borehole measurements using magnetic & non-magnetic equipment and importantly a Northseeking Gyrotracer (SPT) with the most reliable results. Drill hole location measurements at surface and water pressure tests are also part of our service portfolio.
Designed and developed in-house, our KATI drilling units are rich with decades of experience and practical know-how. Our drill rigs are safe, efficient, suitable for all kinds of terrain and they minimize the impacts of our work on the environment. We can also design and implement customised technical solutions.
Underground rigs are included in the selection of drill units, as well as helicopter transportable light weight rigs (Fly-rig). Fly-rig is a good option when you need to reach remote and difficult accessible destinations. KATI units can reach depths of more than 2,000 metres and we offer core samples with a diameter ranging from 30-80 mm.
In the design and manufacture of drilling units, we have paid particular attention to environmental friendliness, operation under arctic conditions and occupational health & safety. The KATI drilling cabin is enclosed and so provides good working conditions for operators, even in tough conditions. Nearly all rigs are rubber tracked, which provides easier moving and minimizes the stress to environment.
One of the practical solutions created by our R&D is an award-winning closed-cycle system. This enables us to minimise water consumption through recycling of water used in drilling (75%). Residual rock cuttings/waste can be separated and are removed from site. This application is being used in sensitive areas where cuttings must be transported out of the area.
From our service selection, customers can choose the required services or a comprehensive service package in cooperation with our partners Palsatech Oy and Geovisor Oy. Services include geochemical sampling, geophysical measurements (surface, downhole), geotechnical field work, samples processing & storing, installation of piezometers, inclinometers, extensometers as well as plugging and cementing of boreholes.
