We hold stocks of steel plates in the UK, and Belgium, allowing us to supply your requirements rapidly. Material is sourced from all the leading mills, predominantly European and we boast a stock of around twenty-five thousand tonnes of material graded for use in petrochemical process, pressure vessels, nuclear, renewables, oil and gas both on and offshore as well as abrasive resistant materials.
We maintain regular production slots in key European mills, enabling us to provide specific requirements to individual customer needs at shorter lead times than most of our competitors.
Brown McFarlane also now boasts one of the largest stock ranges of stainless steel plate in Europe supplying customers across the world with plate and profiled products always available in grades 304, 316, S31803(duplex), and both S32750 and S32760(super duplex).
The plate stock is held segregated in large area format in lengths up to 12,000mm and width up to 3,000mm. It can be offered as full size plate, cut plate, or cut to any size or shape using our computer controlled high definition plasma machines.
This allows our customers to reduce fabrication costs, save time, and minimise scrap by purchasing the optimum size and amount of material to match the needs of their projects.

Captain A.R. Brown founded Brown McFarlane in 1889, and joined forces with George McFarlane, a naval architect, to establish A R Brown McFarlane & Co Ltd based in Glasgow. The company was initially involved in building ships for the Japanese on Clydeside, Glasgow and in the export of machinery and other capital equipment to Japan.
A London office opened in 1915, followed by more offices in Antwerp, New York, Burma and Tokyo all supported by a worldwide agency network. In the meantime business became more centred on the supply of steel products. Today, 125 years on, the founding family still owns the business with Captain Brown’s great, great, grandson’s representing the fifth generation of Browns to be active in the business.
Over the last 20 years in addition to our long heritage in steel supply we have also developed industry leading prefabrication and cutting processes within our three acre stoke facility and supply many of the world’s leading companies to exacting quality standards. Our team of highly trained and experienced sales engineers, procurement and processing specialists provide you with the answers to your questions and the solutions to your problems.
