Acoustic Detection

Neptune Oceanographics Ltd

Neptune Oceanographics' acoustic leak detection sensor features a directional hydrophone that filters the effects of ambient noise.

It can be mounted on an ROV, AUV, or PIG, or can be diver-held. It removes auditory interference from mechanical elements such as support vessels.

In order to locate ultrasounds of pressurised fluids escaping through an orifice, ultrasonic leak detection via a directional hydrophone is utilised on pipelines.

The acoustic signals generated by a leak tend to be at frequencies above 30kHz. The software uses techniques that determine the difference between leak-generated sound, and lower frequency noise such as that caused by the attendant ROV and surface vessels.
