Work is running to schedule at Lijiaxia

The installation of generation equipment at the 2000MW Lijiaxia plant, on the upper reaches of the Yellow river, is proceeding according to schedule.

The rotor from the third 400MW generator was installed in May, and the generator is to be commissioned in the later half of this year.

At its full supply level, Lijiaxia will have a reservoir capable of holding 1.65B m3 of water. Five 400MW generators will utilise this water to generate 5.9B kWh of energy annually. Two generators were commissioned in late 1996/97. Construction work on the project started in 1987.

Located in the counties of Jianzha and Hualong in northwest China’s Qinghai province, the Lijiaxia plant is the third in a cascade of hydro power developments planned for construction on the upper reaches of the Yellow river.

The plant, which has cost 5B yuan to date, was financed jointly by the Chinese government, Shaanxi, Gansu and Qinghai provinces, and the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
