Uprating of Tarbela

IN RESPONSE TO A LETTER OF invitation issued by Pakistan’s Water and Power Development Authority, US-based energy firm, Synergics Energy Development, has offered to invest US$30M for the refurbishment of four power generation units at the Tarbela dam.

The 143m high dam on the Jhelum river, completed in 1976/77, has an installed capacity of 3478MW. Synergics has offered to complete the feasibility study for the refurbishment of the units on the condition that it is given the first right of refusal to upgrade the four units.

Synergics is also the developer of the 84MW Matiltan power project in the North West Frontier project at a cost of US$135M.
