SNC-Lavalin signs co-operation agreement with EGAT

SNC-Lavalin of Canada has signed an agreement with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to exchange technical co-operation and jointly pursue projects. These will be in the electrical fields of generation and transmission, including the development, management, construction, operation and maintenance of hydro power plants.

The agreement also extends to other projects involving the utilisation of water resources including resource management, engineering, procurement, project management, construction management and project commissioning, dam safety, environmental studies, watershed management and facilities management. The co-operation will also comprise advice and assistance of specialised services or training between the Canadian and Thai organisations.

The agreement is the result of a long-standing relationship between EGAT and SNC-Lavalin. It follows on from the success of the ongoing comprehensive dam safety, condition assessment and refurbishment study currently being carried out jointly for EGAT’s 720MW Srinagarind hydro power facility (see article on pp24-9 of this issue).

SNC-Lavalin says that this private-public alliance

demonstrates the appreciation of both rganisations of the changes which are taking place in the hydro sector. This is reflected in a commitment to adapt and to succeed in meeting the new challenges that face the power sector worldwide.
