Saudi Arabia shortlists firms for 700MW renewable energy program

Saudi Arabia has announced the qualified companies for round one of the renewable energy program (NREP), which were selected based on the ability to deliver utility scale renewable energy projects.

The renewable energy project development office (REPDO) of Saudi Arabia’s ministry of energy, industry and mineral resources has selected 27 companies for the 300MW solar PV project, while 24 companies for the 400MW wind farm.

The qualified companies will advance to the RFP stage as either managing members, technical members or both based on their experience in delivering IPP projects.

REPDO has shortlisted the companies from 128 total applications, while the disqualified firms can involve in both projects through joining consortium formed by a qualified managing member and technical member.

Some of the companies qualified for 300MW solar PV project include Acciona Energia Global, ACWA Power, Belectric (RWE Group), EDF Energies Nouvelles Enel Green Power, Marubeni, Mitsui and others.

The companies selected for 400MW wind project include Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Cobra Instalaciones y servicios, EDF Energies Nouvelles, Enel Green Power and International Power.

The next phase of Saudi Arabia’s utility scale renewable energy projects will be revealed during the inauguration of Saudi Arabia Renewable Energy Investment Forum (SAREIF), which will take place between 17 and 18 April.

Saudi Arabia energy, industry and mineral resources minister Khalid Al Falih said: “The market response to the Kingdom’s invitation to its first renewable energy projects has been overwhelmingly positive, demonstrating market confidence in our vast renewable energy potential and investment environment.”

“We look forward to engage more with these leading private developers during the next phase of the procurement process to demonstrate the value that they may bring to the Kingdom.”
