River authority pursues federal permit

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has issued a Notice of Application by Trinity River Authority (TRA) for a preliminary permit to generate hydro power at Lake Livingston Dam in Texas. It is expected that FERC will issue the preliminary permit by late September 2001.

TRA is investigating the hydro power development in cooperation with the East Texas Electric Cooperative (ETEC), a regional generating and transmission entity.

If it proves feasible, TRA anticipates developing a 50MW hydro plant. It is estimated that this facility will be capable of producing an average 178M kWh of energy on an annual basis when complete.
