Jordan valley dams contract award

A consortium of Aegek of Greece and Hydrogradnja has won a US$93.1M contract to build the Wala and Mujib dams as part of Jordan’s Southern Ghors development project.

The contract includes a US$63.2M provision for the Mujib dam, which will have a storage capacity of 35M m3, and US$29.6M for the 9.3M m3 capacity Wala dam. Mujib should take 39 months to complete and Wala 27 months.

The two companies have also agreed to donate a water desalination plant to serve the Karameh area of the northern Jordan valley.

The scheme is being part-financed by a US$113M loan from the Kuwait-based Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.
