The Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPC) is to undertake 27 projects to increase its capacity with an investment of over US$150M. The projects include construction of new hydroelectric power stations and up-grading of the existing ones.

New hydroelectric power stations, with generating capacities of 184MW and 73MW are being built along the Gilgel-Gibe and Blue Nile rivers, respectively.

Studies are also in progress for the construction of new hydroelectric power stations along the Tekeze, Gojebe, Tana, Beles, Chemogada and Halele Werabisa rivers. Funding for the projects will come from EEPC, as well as from international aid.
