Delays at Vietnam hydro plants

Delays in the construction of several key hydroelectric power plants are threatening to disrupt electricity supplies in Vietnam; even though recent press reports state that the reservoirs which feed the country’s hydroelectric plants are full to overflowing.

Modifications to Yaly station mean that its first generating unit will now start operation in late October, compared with the scheduled date of June. Further delays have not been ruled out.

The Song Hinh and Ham Thuan-Da Mi plants are expected to become operational by the end of this year, but uncertainty surrounds these projects because of funding shortages and confusing investment procedures, the Nhan Dan Daily reports.
