Cesp sale postponed

Brazil has postponed the privatisation of the Sao Paulo state-owned power generation company Cesp Parana, as none of the six prequalified buyers submitted bids. Among these were US companies AES Corp, Duke Energy and Southern Energy. Others included Endesa of Spain, Electricidade de Portugal and Electricite de France. Potential bidders said they wanted the auction to be postponed to clarify the status of the proposed expansion of Cesp’s Porto Primavera power plant to 1814MW.

Cesp produces more than half the electricity for Sao Paulo, Brazil’s richest and most populated state. The company has six hydroelectric plants in Sao Paulo on the Parana and Tiete rivers with a total installed capacity of 6500MW.
