GE Power has completed the Advanced Gas Path (AGP) upgrades on four 9E gas turbines at West Damietta Power Plant in Egypt.
The West Damietta Power Plant is owned by East Delta Electricity Production Company and has an output capacity of 1.5GW.
The upgrade solution that GE Power has provided resulted in enhancing fuel efficiency of the facility by 2.2% and increasing the average output per turbine by more than 4.5MW, adding up to the total output increase of 18MW at the facility.
The company said that the technology has improved the average duration between maintenance works on the units from 12,000hours to 32,000hours, which reduced the operational costs. The electricity generated from the power plant is adequate to power up to 15,000 households in Egypt.
East Delta Electricity Production Company chairman Mohamed Abu Sinna said: “We decided to collaborate with GE on this upgrade project because of the proven effectiveness of their technologies in Egypt and across the world.
“Improving supply side energy efficiency is a top priority in Egypt today. By enabling us to generate more power per unit of fuel consumed, GE’s AGP solution is helping us to enhance energy efficiency and bring down costs.”
According to GE Power, its AGP solution has provided customers with a range of performance advancements that can be customized based on their operational needs.
The company claims that it has installed the technology on more than 435 gas turbines across 39 countries on five continents, and generated $775m per annum in benefits for power producers.
It has also installed the AGP upgrade previously on four 9F gas turbines in Egypt located at the Kureimat and Nubaria Power Plants., where the upgrades contributed for an average output increase of approximately 7% per unit and extended the average lifetime of each turbine by 24,000hours.
GE power services and gas power systems Middle East and South Asia businesses president & CEO Joseph Anis said: “The world needs innovative energy solutions that pay for themselves and help balance the need to meet growing energy demands against environmental concerns.
“We are proud to bring GE’s AGP upgrade solution to the West Damietta Power Plant to support the East Delta Electricity Production Company’s efforts to make better use of existing power generation assets and further strengthen Egypt’s energy sector.”
