The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has inaugurated Taweelah Gas Compression Plant to ensure uninterrupted gas supplies to major Abu Dhabi industries and the Northern Emirates customers.
The technologically advanced plant is located 50km north of Abu Dhabi city and capable utilizing up to 450 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of sales gas. The gas is expected to be delivered to the facility by ADNOC Gas Processing’s recently established Maqta-Taweelah pipeline.
Sultan Al Jaber said: “The Taweelah Gas Compression Plant supports the nation’s increasing demand for energy and will play a critical role in the UAE’s drive towards economic diversification by supporting major industrial users.
“It effectively expands the national gas infrastructure for the efficient delivery of gas within the country. This will allow ADNOC to better service its customers throughout the UAE and to implement one of our key strategic imperatives, which is to provide a sustainable and economic supply of gas.”
The inauguration of the Taweelah Gas Compression Plant took place within a month after Abu Dhabi’s Supreme Petroleum Council (SPC) approved ADNOC’s new integrated gas strategy. The strategy would enable the UAE to achieve gas self-sufficiency, with the aim of potentially transitioning to a net gas exporter.
Earlier this month, SPC had given an approval for the company’s plans to invest AED486bn ($132.33bn) to ramp up its production capacity.
Siemens president Joe Kaeser said: “When our customer told us this is a strategically significant project for the UAE and will drive economic development, we committed to deliver in unprecedented time and reliability.
“Completed in record time, ADNOC’s Taweelah Gas Compression Plant is a global benchmark and a great example of how excellent teams, working closely with our strong partners, enable us to deliver on big promises.”
The Taweelah Gas Compression Plant comprises three compression trains, each with a processing capability of 225 mmscfd. At any given time, two of the compression trains will be operational with the third on standby.
The company said that, the Taweelah Gas Compression Plant Imarks an important step in achieving the ADNOC Group’s 2030 smart growth strategy of maximizing value from Abu Dhabi’s hydrocarbon resources.
