An African mining company was suffering extreme wear on a pump installed on an abrasive powder slurry. Additionally, the local supplier did not offer either service or fast provision of spare parts. The customer felt they had been left on their own. NETZSCH technicians therefore had persuasive arguments for getting the company to switch to a NEMO® progressing cavity pump.
The technicians suggested a pump which, due to the special design of the screw conveyor, keeps the solid particles in the slurry in suspension. The pump is also less susceptible to the abrasive effects of the medium thanks to the choice of wear-resistant materials for the pumping elements and a flushed cartridge seal. The additional dry running protector also enables the system to offer greater process reliability in comparison to the previously installed pump.
Maintenance intervals increased from six weeks to six months with the new pump and the maintenance time itself was reduced, because the pump has a more maintenance-friendly design. In addition, NETZSCH trained staff on site, offers ongoing technical support and keeps all critical spare parts in stock on site and at NETZSCH. The customer is impressed by both the competence in the design of the pump and also the complete after-sales service, and plans to replace their old pumps with NETZSCH pumps step by step.
