Visa Q3 net income rises 40%

Visa has reported net income of $1.0bn for the fiscal third quarter of 2011, compared to $716m for the same period in 2010.

Total operating revenues were $2.32bn for the fiscal third quarter of 2011, compared to $2.02bn for the same period in the previous year.

Operating income was $1.35bn for the fiscal third quarter of 2011, compared to $1.13bn for the same period a year ago.

Payments volume growth, on a constant dollar basis, for the fiscal third quarter of 2011, was a positive 13% over the prior year at $941bn.

Cross border volume growth, on a constant dollar basis, was a positive 14% for the fiscal third quarter of 2011.

Visa’s effective tax rate was 38% for the fiscal third quarter of 2011, excluding the revaluation of the Visa Europe put option.

Visa chairman and CEO Joseph Saunders said Visa delivered another quarter of strong financial and operational performance as it benefited from growth in global payments volume, and solid cross border and processed transaction growth.
