Prepaid online payment technology and digital wallet service provider Skrill has acquired the Austrian prepaid payments business paysafecard.com Wertkarten, in order to boost its positions in prepaid online payments industry.
paysafecard’s products facilitates payments without a credit card or bank account at over 4,000 online stores and more than 450,000 sales outlets in 33 nations across Europe, North America and South America.
Skrill CEO Siegfried Heimgaertner said, "This is another significant step towards our long-term ambitions to become the first choice for online payments, helping our end-customers and merchants to pay and get paid globally."
During the financial year 2012, the company processed more than 55 million transactions.
Further, the integration of paysafecard.com Wertkarten with Skrill will open new business avenues in new markets within under-banked populations.
Headquartered in London and majority owned by Investcorp Technology Partners, Skrill has 30 million account holders.
Skrill’s global payment network provides businesses access to over 100 payment options in over 200 nations and territories.
