Digital security provider Gemalto and payments processor SIA have teamed up to support rapid deployment of NFC services across Italy, and establish the first national TSM infrastructure in Europe that can be utilized by all market's key stakeholders.
The TSM infrastructure will also be accessible to the country’s largest mobile network operators and leading banks, according to the company.
In its initiative, SIA has been supported by key Italian telecom operators and banks to offer NFC services through its central hub, which allows contactless payment transactions.
SIA deputy general manager Nicola Cordone said, "By creating a central hub, we meet the needs of both the banking and telecoms sectors fostering the NFC ecosystem and mobile payments."
Expected to be launched in June 2013, the technology that has been certified by Visa and MasterCard, will offer the benefits of the Allynis Trusted Service Management for Service Providers platform operated by Gemalto’s European secure data center.
The company said that up to 200,000 contactless payment terminals will be deployed in Italy by the end of 2013, which will offer full interoperability and can be seamlessly integrated with new service providers.
Gemalto has more than 10,000 staff operating out of 74 offices and 14 research & development centers, located in 43 nations, globally.
