His responsibilities also included oversight of a network of 160 branches in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Mr Shara currently serves on the board of trustees of the Boys and Girls Club of Paterson, New Jersey, and on the board of directors of the Commerce and Industry Association of New Jersey. He also serves on the board of governors of the Ramapo College Foundation.

John Fredericks, chairman of Lakeland Bancorp, said: Tom brings over 25 years of banking experience in Lakeland’s marketplace. He has a strong background in commercial and community banking and has had oversight responsibilities of a significant branch network.
