CME Group Q2 net income rises

CME Group has reported a net income of $293.7m, or $4.38 diluted earnings per share, for the second quarter of 2011, compared to $270.7m, or $4.11 diluted earnings per share, for the same period in 2010.

Total revenues were $838.3m for the second quarter of 2011, compared to $813.9m for the same period in 2010.

Operating income was $534.5m for the second quarter of 2011, compared to $515.1m for the same period in the previous year.

Average daily volume for the second quarter of 2011 was 13.5 million contracts, in line with the second quarter of 2010.

Clearing and transaction fee revenue was $688m for the second quarter of 2011, up 1%, compared to $684m for the same period in 2010.

CME Group executive chairman Terry Duffy said CME Group delivered record revenue during the second quarter, driven by strong performance across interest rates, metals and agricultural commodities. Volume accelerated during the period and we reached record open interest of more than 100 million contracts in June 2011.
